Go-Tube is covered from one end to the other with a translucent layer of shadow tolerant solar power collecting film. By producing more power than it consumes, the energy cost of usage is included so the net cost is limited to wear and tear. When we consider and choose technologies with low wear and tear usage costs, we get very low maintenance costs. The marginal cost of adding extra runs or running below capacity is low. The self-powered property represents a subtle, but significant shift in the economics of its use.
Since energy is being produced and comsumed effectively along the entire length of the tube, energy amounts of the same order as that used may be transported with lower effective losses due to the reduction in average transmission distance to points of use. Storage along the route absorbs and equalizes surges and sags in power. Energy may be used, transported or stored, making the system robust, reliable and efficient.
